This is where the fruit is depulped, fermented, and dried. The coffee cherries processed at Bulambuli are sourced from 200–400 local farmers. The high altitude of the area favors the production of high-quality coffees. The processing at Bulambuli is carried out by specialized staff who ensure precise and controlled conditions throughout the entire process.The region primarily grows the SL14, SL28, and SL34 varieties, which are also characteristic of Kenya. The cherries come from small family farms with an area of less than 1 hectare. These farms are located in parishes—local administrative communities consisting of 7 to 12 villages, often with as few as 200 inhabitants. Farmers typically work in groups led by a designated leader.The harvest of East Ugandan coffee takes place from August to January. In lower-lying areas, the season falls between August and October, while at higher altitudes, it lasts from September to January. Farmers sell their cherries at small collection points or deliver them directly to the washing station. In case you're thinking "oh no, plastic!", bear in mind that standard coffee packaging is also made of plastic (and a few other materials, making it often harder to recycle). We also thought about glass, but it's heavier, more expensive, breakable and, wait for it, has the same or greater (sic!) environmental impact! A plastic jar turns out to be pretty eco-friendly, just remember to put it in the right container, or find a creative way to reuse it at home.

It is one of the most consistently developed coffee projects in the region — the family micromill Café Rivense, founded in 2005 by Régulo Ureña and Isabel Rojas, and now operated together with their sons: Ricardo, Mario, Esteban, and Luis.The Vista al Chirripó farm sits at elevations reaching up to around 2000 meters above sea level, overlooking Costa Rica’s highest peak, Cerro Chirripó. Lots from this very farm placed 5th in the Cup of Excellence 2019, confirming it as one of the most respected terroirs in the country.The family prioritizes biodiversity, full self-sufficiency, and minimal water usage. The entire production chain — from harvesting and processing to export — is managed by the family themselves, without intermediaries.ABOUT THE COFFEEThis is an exceptional lot of Caturra, processed through anaerobic fermentation and dried in the fruit. The method enhances juicy fruit character and deep sweetness, resulting in a profile full of cherry, dried plum, and praline-like creaminess.The cup is smooth and elegant, with a long, sweet finish — ideal for filter brewing.Cherries are selectively handpicked and then placed in sealed tanks for anaerobic fermentation, where they remain in controlled, oxygen-free conditions.
