It is about 192 km away from Kigali, and coffee cherries from surrounding farms located at 1,500–1,900 meters are processed on site. The high altitude, volcanic mineral-rich soils, and around 1,356 mm of rainfall per year create excellent conditions for growing coffee.In 2026, Baho Coffee continues to make great use of the station's unique location by Lake Kivu. The delicate breeze from the lake and the gentle sun allow the coffee to dry slowly and evenly, resulting in a very clean, full, and intense flavor in the cup. This coffee is famous for its distinct, fresh acidity and complex fruity character. Black Honey is a processing method that enhances the fruity character of the bean. Archetypes of coffees from Ethiopia. A point of reference. Ben - our importer - alongside the name Bench Maji for the farm where this coffee comes from, also uses the name Geisha Farm. This is because local farmers grow mostly this botanical variety. Check out the effect of their effort by brewing this lot. The coffee has an intensely tropical taste thanks to the processing method – anaerobic fermentation with limited oxygen access, which lasted 96 hours. This, combined with a very clean and juicy botanical variety that is geisha, gives a taste so full and fruity that it is hard to stop drinking this coffee. It brings a tear to the eye! Willy is a great guy, full of passion, faith, and energy for testing new farming methods. This season, we have two coffees from him from two different lots of his farm: Murundo comes first, and we have Mahembe up our sleeve for you.Willy experimented here with anaerobic fermentation. What is this "anaerobic" thing anyway? In this process, coffee ferments in an oxygen-free environment – in this case, it lasted for 72 hours. Prolonged fermentation adds a lot of sweetness and a characteristic "funk" to the coffee. It's easy to overdo the latter, but Willy keeps an eye on everything, so you won't find any aggressive, lemony, or vinegary notes in the cup. The coffee is clean, elegant, and leaves a very long, pleasant finish!Store in a cool, dry place.

How did it happen? Hand-picked cherries – nothing unusual. But then – SHOCK. Thermal! The cherries were submerged in water at a temperature of 180°F (80°C) for 30 to 60 seconds. Next, the fruits were washed and underwent ozonation. The seeds were extracted, and the juicy experimenting began. Juice was squeezed from the skins of still-fresh cascara. The juice was mixed with the beans in fermentation barrels. With the help of the necessary microorganisms, the beans underwent lactic fermentation for 220 hours. After that, just 20 days of drying, and there you have it.Reading this description, you might think it would turn into pickled cucumbers, or at least kombucha. Nothing of the sort. When Rafał joined the team and sat down with us for his first cupping, he blurted out right away: "Hey, I think you've never had a coffee from Burundi, and I like them so much!" So we decided to make Rafał's life a little nicer, ordered samples, and chose this (and one more!) great lot.Located in Ngozi Province, the Mubuga processing station collaborates with over 1,900 local farmers who deliver their carefully selected harvests here every year. This place stands out for its impressive technical infrastructure created for the precise processing of only the finest, fully ripe cherries. The station's facilities include as many as 12 fermentation tanks, 3 soaking tanks, over 300 drying beds, and 4 specialized tables for quality sorting.Harvesting in this region usually lasts from April to June, but this coffee's journey to your cup only begins then.
