A natural. At first, everything pointed to it being washed — the appearance of the beans, the clarity in the cup. But then came the first cupping and… boom — intense sweetness and a heavier body. Things got interesting real fast. I thought something was off, but the importer confirmed — it’s a natural.Turns out, this mix-up is pretty common in Tanzania. Bags often come pre-printed with “washed,” since it’s the most common processing method — and they just reuse them. And the fact that the coffee looked washed? Well, as you can see, Tanzanian naturals can be surprisingly close to washed coffees — both in appearance and flavor.
