White Monkey is a prized variety of white tea originating from the Wuji Mountains in China’s Fujian Province, the cradle of tea culture. It is made from a cultivar typically used for producing white teas; however, since it is processed using a method characteristic of green teas, it is often compared to them. In reality, though, it remains a true white tea. This classification is based on its distinct flavor profile.
White Monkey offers a clearly sweet yet dry, woody note, free from the grassy aftertaste typical of green teas. The tea consists of large, twisted leaves with a noticeable silvery hue — a result of the fine white hairs on the young buds, which resemble the soft fur on a monkey’s paws.
