ABOUT THE FARM AND THE COFFEE PRODUCER
Buena Tierra was founded in 2018 in the aftermath of a huge tragedy—the eruption of El Fuego, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, whose peak is visible from almost anywhere in Acatenango. This tragedy claimed the lives of hundreds or thousands of people (to this day, several hundred remain missing) and irrevocably destroyed two villages. Buena Tierra was created as a response to the crisis, serving as a long-term project to rebuild local communities. It supports producers by providing training, offering improved coffee plant varieties (such as Anacafe 14), facilitating access to fertilizers, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices that strengthen the long-term development of farms.Buena Tierra also houses a wet mill, where various methods characteristic of the specialty segment are used—washed, natural, honey, and anaerobic fermentation. By experimenting with innovative processing techniques, producers create unique flavor profiles that open up opportunities to introduce their coffees to foreign markets.
ABOUT THE PROCESSING
Anacafe 14 variety, hand-picked, fermented with mucilage for 48 hours with limited air access after being separated from the fruit. Then dried on raised beds.
ROASTER'S OPINION
An unusual profile in the context of most Guatemalan coffees we have offered for years. Plenty of wine-like sweetness backed by complex fruitiness, all wrapped up with a caramel finish.
Store in a cool and dry place.
