ABOUT THE COFFEE

It’s been a bumper year for delicious Kenyan coffees, and we couldn’t be happier. With our latest arrival, Inoi Ndimi, we’re keeping those summer fruit flavours going a little longer. It’s all red fruit, freshness and sweetness, with a hint of biscuit in the background signalling cooler days ahead.

Red gooseberry and redcurrant give this coffee its distinctly red-fruit character. They capture both its fruitiness and its lively, juicy acidity. There’s plenty of biscuity sweetness too, with a gently spiced edge. Hence Biscoff in our tasting notes: those familiar caramelised, spiced biscuits. A little summer, a little autumn, and a lovely meeting of the two in your cup.

The coffee comes from smallholder farmers in Kirinyaga, at the foot of Mount Kenya. Once picked, the cherries go to Ndimi washing station, which belongs to the Inoi cooperative.

The beans undergo a traditional washed process. First, a machine removes the skin and most of the fruit’s flesh. Fermentation then helps break down the remaining sticky layer, which is washed off with water. Finally, the coffee dries on raised beds. This method encourages a clear cup in which the individual flavours are easy to pick out.

Store in a cold and dry space.
