ABOUT THE FARM

Long Miles Coffee is one of the most interesting coffee projects in Burundi. It was founded in 2011 by Ben and Kristy Carlson, who recognized both the huge potential of Burundian coffees and the challenges faced by local farmers following the privatization of the coffee sector. Their goal was to create a collaboration model that would allow farmers to produce better coffee and receive fairer compensation, while providing roasteries around the world with access to exceptional and fully traceable lots.

Today, Long Miles works with thousands of smallholder producers and operates its own washing stations, including Bukeye, Heza, and Giku. Every batch of coffee can be traced back not only to a specific station, but often to the specific hill where the cherries were grown. Thanks to this, Long Miles has become one of the pioneers in building transparency and traceability for Burundian coffee.

The project's philosophy is based on a simple premise: good coffee starts with people. That is why Long Miles invests not only in infrastructure and processing quality, but also in farmer training, local community development, and long-term relationships with producers. The result is coffees that regularly feature in the offerings of the world's most respected specialty roasteries and have been building Burundi's reputation as one of Africa's most exciting origins for years.
