The region is characterized by mineral-rich volcanic clay soils, consistent rainfall, and a mild climate. It serves a total of 513 active farmers (349 men and 164 women), each owning on average 300 coffee trees and about 0.5 acres of land. In addition to coffee, farmers near their plantations also grow macadamia nuts, bananas, and maize. Karindundu supports farmers by advising them on practices such as using organic fertilizers and pruning their plants. The station also operates a demonstration plot where these methods can be observed in practice.Fun fact: After harvesting ripe coffee cherries, farmers deliver them to Karindundu, where they undergo a traditional washed process. The coffee is depulped, fermented overnight, washed, and then placed on raised drying beds, where it dries until it reaches the desired moisture level.

The washing station is located on the slopes of Mount Kenya near the town of Kangema, and the coffee cherries harvested by 980 farmers who are members of the cooperative are processed here.Fun fact: Like many other Kenyan coffees, coffees from the Githiga station undergo a double washing process. After the ripe cherries are separated from defective, unripe, and overripe ones, they are wet-processed using clean water from the Githiga stream.
