ABOUT THE FARM
The Burunga coffee washing station is located in the region of the same name, which covers the areas of Bururi, Makamba, and Rumonge. Coffee is grown here on hills and slopes descending toward Lake Tanganyika, at altitudes ranging from 1300 to 1900 m above sea level. The region is characterized by mineral-rich volcanic clay soils, consistent rainfall, and a mild climate. Along with the development of the region, the Burunga station is gaining recognition for reflecting the classic Burundi terroir and reliable coffee quality.
Fun fact: The dominant coffee variety in the region is Red Bourbon, grown by smallholder farmers and processed mainly using washed or natural methods at local processing stations. In the cup, coffees from the Burunga region are famous for their clean, balanced acidity, floral sweetness, and a juicy, delicately sweet finish.
