ABOUT THE BLEND
Our espresso blend was created to combine the classic, sweet character of Brazilian coffees with the fruity complexity and juiciness characteristic of African coffees. Its foundation is Brazil Alta Mogiana, which makes up 80% of the blend, while the remaining 20% is a seasonally changing, washed coffee from African growing regions.
Alta Mogiana, located in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, is famous for coffees with a full body, distinct sweetness, and notes of chocolate and roasted nuts. Natural processing highlights their deep, balanced character, creating a solid base for our blend.
The current edition of the blend is complemented by Rwanda Abadatezuka, originating from the western part of the country near Lake Kivu and the Nyungwe Forest. The coffee is grown by smallholder farmers associated with the Abadatezuka cooperative, who deliver their harvested cherries to the Cyato washing station. The high altitude of the crops, fertile soils, and cooler microclimate favor the slow ripening of the cherries, while washed processing allows their clean, fruity character to emerge.
The combination of these two coffees results in an espresso with distinct sweetness, full body, and pleasant, fruity acidity. The chocolate-nutty base of Brazil meets the juicier and more complex character of Rwanda here, creating a harmonious blend that works well both as a classic espresso and in milk drinks.
The seasonal change of the African component allows us to discover new flavor profiles while maintaining the recognizable character of our espresso blend.
