ABOUT THE REGION
Kaguyu Factory is a washing station located in the Kirinyaga region, on the fertile, volcanic slopes of Mount Kenya. Situated at an altitude of 1750–1800 m a.s.l., it benefits from excellent coffee-growing conditions: abundant rainfall, fertile red soils, and the cool climate characteristic of the surroundings of the country's highest peak.Kaguyu belongs to the Inoi Farmers Cooperative Society. Coffee is delivered here by smallholders, who usually own a few hundred coffee trees each. This model is typical for Kenya — instead of large plantations, thousands of small family farms dominate. Combined with specialized washing stations, it allows maintaining a very high level of selection and raw material quality.
ABOUT THE PROCESSING
The coffee is processed using the fully washed method with double fermentation, which is classic for Kenya. Carefully selected cherries reach the station on the very same day after harvesting. After depulping, the beans undergo overnight fermentation, then they are washed in sorting channels, soaked for another 24–48 hours in clean water, and dried on raised beds. It is this precise processing that is responsible for the clarity of flavor and high sweetness characteristic of the best Kenyan coffees.
ROASTER'S OPINION
Sweet and refreshing. A bit like blackberry jam, a bit like currant juice. And all of this with a subtle hint of caramel.
Store in a cool, dry place.
