ABOUT THE REGION

The Shantewene washing station is located in the village of the same name in the Sidamo region. It purchases coffee cherries from around 1,600 local farmers who grow coffee in their home gardens. These are small orchards where coffee trees almost always grow in the shade of other trees, which helps achieve high-quality beans. The quality is also enhanced by the fertile soil and the high altitude of the farms, which climb as high as 2,000 meters above sea level on the slopes of the Bombe Mountains.
