ABOUT THE FARM
The Mutheka Farmers’ Co-operative Society is an example of what is most important in Kenyan agriculture — the strength of the community, local experience, and grassroots work. Operating in the Nyeri region, in the heart of the Kenyan coffee sector, the cooperative brings farmers together, creating a space for collaboration and the joint improvement of production quality.
The organization is based on a cooperative model, supporting its members in production, logistics, and sales, which allows them to reach the market more effectively and increase the value of their coffee. Thanks to this, smallholders benefit from the knowledge, infrastructure, and experience of the entire community.
Although the cooperative is not widely known in the media, it constitutes an important element of Kenyan agriculture — stable and based on local commitment. The Mutheka Farmers’ Co-operative Society is, above all, about the people: their work, tradition, and the pursuit of quality that shape contemporary agriculture in Kenya.
ROASTER'S OPINION
In this bag, you will find a classic, well-balanced Kenya — a blend of the two most valued botanical varieties in the country: SL28 and SL34. This combination is the foundation of Kenyan quality and is responsible for the characteristic, expressive profile of this region.
In the aroma, the coffee presents itself very fresh and complex — notes of lemon, berries, and a delicate, slightly savory (umami) background appear, giving it depth. The flavor is dominated by citrus, especially lemon, intertwined with juicy blackberry and subtle, dry accents reminiscent of tomato.
The body is medium, round, and pleasantly mouth-filling. The whole experience is completed by a long, fruity aftertaste and a vibrant, refreshing acidity with a slightly sparkling character, which gives the coffee energy and freshness.
This is a classic Kenya in a very refined, clean form — intense yet elegant, and perfect for the increasingly warm days.
RECIPE
Kenya captivates with its beautiful and sparkling acidity, which is why we recommend a dripper for this coffee — Hario V60 or Origami.
For a 300 ml brew, use 18 g of medium-coarsely ground coffee (22-24 clicks on a Comandante), water at a temperature of 93-94°C, and pour as follows:
- 0:00 – 55 ml (swirl the dripper)
- 0:30 – 120 ml
- 1:00 – 180 ml
- 1:30 – 240 ml
- 2:00 – 300 ml
Gently swirl at the end.
Store in a cool and dry place.
