ABOUT THE FARM
Karimikui is one of three washing stations owned by the Rungeto Farmers’ Co-operative Society, established after the dissolution of the well-known Ngiriama Co-operative. The station was reopened in 1997 and has been continuously serving local farmers ever since. Coffee cherries are hand-sorted, then processed using the classic washed method: fermentation, washing, and quality selection. The parchment is dried for 8 to 14 days on raised beds, ensuring even and consistent drying.
The Rungeto co-operative has implemented a number of solutions to improve processing quality and reduce environmental impact. Across all its stations, tiles have been installed in washing channels and fermentation tanks, and a system for reusing process water is in place.
ROASTER’S OPINION
This coffee could easily be the flagship of the entire Kenyan coffee sector. It has everything we love about Kenyan coffees, and plenty of it. Blackcurrants, raspberries, citrus. Juicy, vibrant acidity. One of the best Kenyan coffees we have tasted recently. A phenomenon.
