Mist from the nearby Kibira Forest cools the coffee trees on Gishubi and Mutana, slowing cherry maturation and adding complexity. On Nkonge, natural springs and high altitudes create dense, flavour-rich beans, while Mikuba is blanketed in wildflowers and food crops, with farmers walking anywhere from a few metres to several kilometres to deliver cherries to Heza. This unique mix of terroirs gives the coffee a layered and vibrant character. Heza means ‘beautiful place’ in Kirundi, the local language of Burundi.
