Preparing matcha in the bowl
The traditional method of preparing matcha comes from the Japanese tea ceremony. You will need a matcha bowl (matchawan), a bamboo whisk (chasen), and a bamboo scoop (chashaku).
Place two bamboo scoops of matcha (1.5 g) into the matchawan, add about 100 ml of hot water (80 °C) — just enough to cover the bottom of the bowl. Then whisk vigorously with the chasen in an M-shaped motion until a thick, light-green foam forms on the surface. This takes less than 30 seconds. After that, add more water depending on how strong you like your tea.
The vessel is dishwasher-safe.
