ABOUT THE FARM AND THE COFFEE PRODUCER
Rugamba is a relatively young mill, built just in 2009. It is located in a beautiful spot, right by the shore of the popular Lake Kivu. The cherries are delivered here by around 1,500 small producers who cultivate red bourbon, a classic variety for this country, in the surrounding mountains. Each of the producers owns a maximum of a few hectares of farmland, so we have here, as almost always in the case of this part of the world, a large but incredibly consistent blend of the same varietal.
ABOUT THE COFFEE BEAN PROCESSING ON THE FARM
Red bourbon variety, hand-picked by around 1,500 small producers and delivered to the mill on the same day. The seed is separated from the fruit while retaining a distinct layer of pulp and is dried this way on raised beds for about 25 days.
ROASTER'S OPINIONA classic, almost immortal Rwandan profile, this time in a honey version. You take a mug in your hand and guess it after the very first note.
