ABOUT THE REGIONCajamarca is a fairly dry and cool tropical region located in the northeastern highlands of Peru, characterized by very fertile soil at high Andean elevations. All of these factors favor the developing production of specialty coffee. Cajamarca is the main coffee-growing region in Peru, accounting for about 25% of national production. Smallholder producers own about 2-3 hectares of cultivated land, and many of them use organic farming methods.

Fun fact: microlots (small lots of coffee) from Peru can be traced all the way to the farm level. They are characterized by the highest quality and the highest prices paid to coffee producers. These can be groups of farmers or even individual members of certified cooperatives.
