Some flesh-and-blood heresy was about to be committed. And what could be more sinful than mixing one of the best/most expensive coffees in the world with a totally fundamental, yet strongly fruity Guatemalan beans for everyday drinking! Now, if you expect us to add a handful of honey to a barrel of tar, this is not our kind of trick. Ladies and gentlemen, there is 31%f geisha here. Thirty-one, namely. As another roastery starting with H said, "you just don't mix it". And that's why it gives us great pleasure to serve you such heresies. But officially speaking now, it’s a specialty coffee blend roasted at Heresy by the 2020 Polish Roasting Vice Champion. 69% of sweet Guatemalan Santa Barbara and 31% of sweet geisha beans. Dedicated for filter brewing. A complex profile with fruity and floral notes.

PROCESSING

In this Valentine's Day edition of Love Potion, we joined two washed Guatemalan coffees in a marriage knot. They surprised us again with how perfectly they complement each other, and yet these grains theoretically aren't supposed to be blended. And since it's not appropriate, we had to commit the deed! Santa Barbara is a classic washed with just the right amount of fermentation before drying. Combine that with ultra-ripe fruit, because that's all that's harvested there. Well, jammy as hell. And geisha is also a washed grain processed by the Castillo family of Agua Tibia farm near Guatemala City. As befits a geisha, it is delicate, incredibly sweet and floral, the ultimate coffee lady. Perhaps there is much truth in the idea that opposites attract.

THE FARM

Santa Barbara coffee comes from twelve small producers, whose farms are no more than a hectare in size. All are located at incredible heights, sometimes higher than many Tatra peaks. The pickers in this part of Huehuetenango are considered the best in the country, and you can taste it in the cupping. While you'd be picking like a fool, they know that cherry should hang on a little longer. It's sweet and powerfully fruity. The second farm is Agua Tibia (Spanish for warm water) near Guatemala City, whose manager is Erik de la Roca, owner of La Esperanza farm in Acatenango. It was through a good relationship with Erik that we were able to get these exceptional beans from Agua Tibia.

ROASTER'S COMMENT

Simple math. One good coffee add another good coffee. Roast it to similar colors. And you know it's gonna taste like a hundred bucks. Or like a thousand! Please help yourself, because this is a one-shot product - one geisha bag, one unique blend, 300 jars of this came out and there will be no more.

PACKAGING

The coffee is packed in a brown jar made of PET, 100% recyclable or reusable. In case you're thinking "oh no, plastic!", bear in mind that standard coffee packaging is also made of plastic (and a few other materials, making it often harder to recycle). We also thought about glass, but it's heavier, more expensive, breakable and, wait for it, has the same or greater (sic!) environmental impact! A plastic jar turns out to be pretty eco-friendly, just remember to put it in the right container, or find a creative way to reuse it at home.
